Service Terms Here are definitions for terms used in describing shipment types and special services provided by Spedogistic:
Bulkhead – A partition installed in a trailer to safely separate freight during transit.
Cubic Feet – A measurement calculated by multiplying the length, width, and height of the space a shipment occupies and dividing by 1,728 cubic inches.
Deadhead – A term for an empty trailer during travel, often describing a return journey to its origin.
Dock – A designated area for loading and unloading shipments.
Drayage – The transportation of goods over a short distance, commonly for local shipping needs.
Dunnage – Materials like plastic, wood, or bags used to protect goods during transport.
Effectively Occupy – The amount of line-haul equipment space needed to transport a shipment.
Exclusive Use – Service where the shipper has full control over the transported freight, with no additional cargo allowed in the trailer.
Expedite – Services for urgent shipments needing quick delivery.
Final-Mile – Deliveries requiring additional services like appointment windows or consumer notifications.
Freeze Protection – Service to safeguard goods from temperatures at or below 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
Full Visible Capacity – Quantity of freight filling equipment space without room for additional cargo.
Freight of All Kinds (FAK) – Multiple load types combined into one shipment.
Full–Container-Load (FCL) – Container filled to capacity with no space for additional goods.
Full-Truckload (FTL) – Freight filling a trailer completely.
Hazmat – Materials requiring special precautions during transport.
Intermodal – Shipping using multiple modes like trucks and trains for efficiency.
Knocked Down (KD) – Disassembled goods requiring assembly after delivery.
Less-Than-Container-Load (LCL) – Multiple shipments combined into one container.
Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) – Freight not filling a trailer entirely.
Pallet – Wooden platform supporting and protecting freight during handling.
Skid – Single platform with legs or runners for supporting freight during transport.
Time Critical – Shipments requiring delivery by a specific date or time.
